OPRA Extends a Message of Support and Opportunity to Physicians During Quebec Rally
Montreal, QC — The Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance (OPRA) displayed a mobile billboard outside the Bell Centre in Montréal during a rally of Quebec physicians protesting the proposed compensation changes under Bill 2, which would link a portion of physicians’ pay to performance indicators and impose penalties for labour actions.
The billboard’s messages are not an act of provocation but an invitation and a statement of solidarity. It reflects a nationwide reality: physicians across Canada are feeling undervalued, overburdened, and restricted by policy reforms that limit professional autonomy and threaten quality of care.
“We understand what Quebec’s doctors are fighting for — respect, fair compensation, and professional freedom,” said Jill Croteau, Chair of the Ontario Physician Recruitment Alliance. “Our message is one of welcome. Ontario’s municipalities and hospitals are working together to create environments where physicians feel supported to practice medicine the way they were trained to.”
Across Ontario, hundreds of municipalities are responding to physician shortages with tangible local solutions, relocation incentives, practice supports, housing assistance, and team-based care models, all designed to improve physician retention and restore patient access.
The campaign underscores a broader national issue: Canada urgently needs a coordinated, ethical, and sustainable physician workforce strategy that prioritizes both physician well-being and patient access to care.
